Let me show you where to find free B-Roll and how to edit it into your video. This will allow you to increase your watch hours.
I know when I first started making videos, I found a site that sells B-Roll but they were charging $79. This was too pricey for me, so I started making my own. But, there are places you can get this for free.
I think when we first start making YouTube videos, we’re so worried about what everybody else is going to think of us, that we don’t have fun with it. So, I’ve been trying to give you some videos on how you can do things yourself because I want you to have fun.
There’s A Lot Of Misconception About How To Create Videos
I know a lot of training out there might tell you that you have to look a certain way. Or, that you have to have a certain background. Or, that you have to talk a certain way and wear certain clothes. The list goes on and on. This just makes you worry about all that.
Others tell you that you have to have a script. This just makes you sound like you’re reading from a script. Instead, they should be saying to be natural and be yourself and you’ll be fine.
Editing Your Videos Can Be Fun
I think most people are intimidated by the editing of their videos. But, if you just start by adding one new element at a time, it does become fun. Once you master that, you can add more.
So, let’s start by adding B-Roll to your videos. I’m going to show you where you can get it for free and how to use my favorite editing tool.
I use Camtasia to edit my videos and I’m going to show you how easy it is to use.
Where To Get Free B-Roll To Increase Your Watch Hours
1. Go to https://www.pexels.com/. They also offer free stock photos as well as videos.
2. Next you want to search for what you want in your B-Roll. For example, if you have a cooking channel, you might search for “pouring batter”.
3. First, you’ll see some photos pop up, but you want to click on “videos” in the top menu.

Now you’ll see different videos about pouring and batter. Because the first word in your search is “pouring”, you’re also going to see videos on pouring wine or even beer.
4. To download a video, just click on it. Check how long the video is and whether this will fit into what you want. I find sometimes that if I’m talking about something and I’m using a screen, this can get monotonous for viewers. So this is a good time to throw in a B-Roll. This means your viewers will have something to watch while they’re listening.
Once you’ve found a video you like, just download it.

When you click the download button, it’s going to ask you if you want to donate to say thank you. If you find that you’re using a lot of videos from one person, then you might want to give them a donation because that’s the only way they make money on this platform.
Make sure that the videos you’re collecting are relevant to your content but don’t overdo it. Some people will have B-Rolls all the way through their videos because they don’t want to show their face.
That’s absolutely fine. But make sure the B-Rolls are relevant and you’re not just throwing them in for the sake of it.
Adding Your B-Rolls To Your Video
I use Camtasia for this and I’m very satisfied with it. It’s very easy. I started using it two years ago and knew nothing about editing.
In fact, my first hundred videos were nothing but me talking and a collection of PowerPoints. And that was it. I think I was afraid to try new things but I’ve since found that video editing is really easy.
Camtasia is a screen cast editing program. You buy it once and install it on your computer. They do have periodic updates that you can choose to get if you want to.
One of the things I love about this program is the media bin. In this you can keep all the elements that you want to use every time you create a video.
Putting Your Video Together
For this example, let’s create a video for the cooking channel that I don’t have. I created a short video for this so that I could show you what to do in this tutorial.
So, I’ve added this video into the media bin in Camtasia as well as the videos I downloaded from Pexels.

Once you have all your elements in the media bin, move your main video down to the bottom.

Above the line is the audio track (track 2) and below the line is an image (track 1). You can adjust the image so that you only have it showing and not all the other things around it in the large box at the top.

Next, insert your first B-Roll exactly where you want it to be by dragging it down and placing it right next to the line at the point where you want it to show.

Then, keep adding the different B-Rolls in the spots you want them to appear. This makes it more interesting for your viewers.
So, that’s how easy it is to add these B-Rolls into your videos.
Here’s A Little Bonus For You
Remember, that as you add things and you want them to overlap, you have to put them in the next track. Notice how the audio is in track 2 and the B-Rolls are in track 3.

Some people like to add a little bit of music in the background. You want to add this into track 4. You can find free music tracks on YouTube that you can download and use in your videos. I show you how to do this in another video that you can watch here.
Once you have your music track, add it to your media bin. Then drag it down into track 4. You can turn down the volume of the music by dragging down the green bar.

You might notice that the music track is far longer than the actual video. Therefore, you want to cut that off at the end of the video.
All you have to do is make sure the editing line is at the end of the video. Then, click on “edit” in the top menu and select “split all”.

This will split the sound track and you’ll be able to delete the section that you don’t need.
So that’s how easy it is to add B-Roll to your videos. I hope this has inspired you to have some fun with your videos and make them more interesting for your viewers.
Here’s a link to Camtasia, in case you want to try it out for yourself. I highly recommend it because it’s so easy to use.
