In this article, I want to show you how to add a typing effect to your YouTube videos. This means that while people are watching your video, you can have the text scroll across the video screen. This could be useful if you mention a title of another one of your videos or a resource that you think people might be interested in.
In the past, I’ve done this the old way and it can take an enormous amount of time. However, with this clever trick, I’m going to show you how to do it in less than five minutes
.
Create A Typing Effect Using Canva
You might have guessed it, but for this tutorial, we’ll be using Canva. So, log in to your Canva account and select a new design to create. A YouTube thumbnail is ideal for this.
Once you have your blank design on the screen, go up to the search bar and type in “search bar”. You want to be in the “elements” screen for this. So in other words, you want to be looking for a “search bar” element.

There are some free ones that you can choose if you’re still using the Canva free account. But, because I have the Pro account, I have a lot more options.
Here’s the one I’m going to use for this demonstration:

You can adjust the size of the element and make it larger so that’s it’s easy to see on your video. You can also change the color if you want to. This is especially useful if you have your own set of branding colors that you like to use across all your videos. You can even change the background color if you would like to.
Next, you want to select “text” in the left-hand menu and add some text to your search bar.

You can adjust the size of your text so that it fits perfectly into the search bar and even change the font if you want to.
The next thing we want to do is to “animate” the text. To do this, you need to click on “animate” in the top menu.

Once you’re in “animate”, click on the text again so that it’s the text that is going to be animated and not the entire design page.
To make it really easy, there’s a text animation called “typewriter” that you can select.

That’s how easy it is. Of course, there are other choices too that you might like to experiment with.
Remember, you can use this typing effect anywhere in your video, even without the search bar element. Personally, I like how it looks with the search bar element but you might choose another type of element that you think will resonate with your audience.
Once you’re done, all you have to do is download the design as an MP4 and get ready to add it to your video.
Adding The Typing Effect To Your Video
Once you’ve downloaded your design, it’s just a case of opening your video editing software and uploading the design to add to your video.
As you know, I use Camtasia as my editing software. So, all I have to do is open the video that I want to add the typing text to, upload the design I just created to the media bin and then place it into my video in the appropriate spot.

That’s how you can create the typing effect to add to your videos. It’s very easy to do by using Canva. If you haven’t tried using Canva yet, you can get a free 14-day trial for the Pro account with this link.
This allows you to try it out and see how you like all the cool features that this tool provides.
Have Fun!
